A little closer
to nature.
One pine tree at a time.
Start with curiosity
What kind of pine is that? Could I grow one from seed? Why are its needles changing color? Fogpine exists for those everyday questions—the ones that turn a passing interest into a closer relationship with the living things around us.
We focus on pine trees: how to recognize them, choose them thoughtfully, and help them grow. A good guide should make the next step clearer, whether that step is planting a seed or deciding that a particular tree is too large for your garden.
How we write our guides
Our articles are editorial syntheses of horticultural and forestry information. We link to the university extension, botanical, and public-agency references behind the advice. Sources and publication dates appear on each guide.
We distinguish a general guideline from a species-specific requirement, and an identification clue from a confirmed identification. Our illustrations are decorative; they should not be used as botanical keys. Site photographs provide atmosphere or illustrate a general topic unless a species is explicitly identified.
Fogpine is not claiming an arborist review, original field trials, or personal growing experience for these articles. For a diagnosis, large-tree safety, or a planting decision with local consequences, consult a qualified professional or your regional extension service.
Tools with the workings visible
Our calculators use straightforward geometry. We show the formulas, assumptions, and limitations alongside the results. The identification tool narrows the small set of species in our guide; it does not recognize every pine in the world.
Independent, useful, and growing
There are currently no affiliate links, paid product placements, or shopping recommendations on Fogpine. If we introduce commercial relationships in the future, we will identify them clearly where they appear.
